In addition to the Standard Online First Aid Course, Principle Safety offers a traditional Workplace Standard First Aid Course and Emergency First Aid.

 

Standard First Aid

Course Content

The skills taught in the Standard First Aid Course are as follows:

  • Legal implications
  • Assessing the scene
  • How the body works
  • The primary and secondary survey
  • Fractures, dislocations, and sprains
  • Heart attacks, angina and strokes
  • Unconsciousness
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Burns
  • Eye injuries
  • Choking
  • Shock
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Hypothermia
  • Frostbite
  • Heat Illnesses
  • Poisoning

 

CPR is offered in levels A, B, or C; A is the most common for the workplace. C is delivered most often.

Course Duration

This Red Cross Standard First Aid course is a full 16 hours of instruction comprised completely of classroom instruction, skills development, and a written final exam. Prestan CPR manikins are used in the classroom to ensure participants are trained adequately for potential real life situations.

This course is valid towards Standard First Aid Certification in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Course Completion

Upon course completion, and following the passing of the final exam with a minimum of 80%, certificates will be handed out for proof of completion.

 

Emergency First Aid

Course Content

  • Preparing to respond
  • The EMS system
  • Check, Call, Care
  • Airway emergencies
  • Breathing and circulation emergencies
  • First aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Wound care

Includes any other content required by specific legislation

Course Duration

Basic one-day course ( 6.5 – 8 hours dependant on province) offering an overview of first aid and CPR skills for the workplace or home.

Course Completion

100% attendance, skills demonstration and 75% min. passing grade on written exam.
